If you hold your hands toward your weight, you will press more than if you hold your hands toward your shoulders.  However, this will also affect the leverage that you have, so it may not directly affect how hard you&#8217;re working.<br />
If you carry more weight around your waist or legs, you will press less weight than if you carry more around your chest and shoulders.  This is why woman can hold chest presses much longer than men&#8211;they carry more weight around there legs and waist, while men carry more weight in their chest.  When it comes to actually doing push-ups (as opposed to holding a chest press), however, men usually win because more chest muscle mass means more endurance.<br />
In all cases, however, the amount of weight you press will be at least 25% less than your actual weight, but the variables are too many to give you a more accurate answer.  Best way to figure it out is to do a push up on with one hand on a scale (the other hand should be on a book of the same thickness to be even), then double the weight that you see.<br />
